Everyone feels scared and alone sometimes. A special blanket can offer a little comfort and care when it’s needed most. Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community began making Peacemaker Quilts in 2021. Sangha members near and far have been sewing together blocks that have been artfully crafted into quilts. These quilts are distributed as gifts to children in the foster care system, elders experiencing loneliness, and others who might need comfort.
Making patchwork robes has long been an important spiritual practice. As we stitch pieces together, we imagine sewing a fragmented world back into wholeness. We appreciate the treasure of every piece of discarded, donated, used, and purchased cloth. Making a sacred object from such materials reminds us of the dignity of every single thing and of the healing power of compassion in our lives.
Each quilt top needs to be filled, backed, bound, and either hand or machine quilted to make a finished gift. To fund the finish assembly, we invite you to “adopt” a quilt by choosing one or more you admire from the photos below and making a gift of $108 to complete each blanket for giveaway. To adopt a quilt is not to purchase it, but to fund a gift that will brighten the life of someone else. We extend our boundless gratitude to everyone who gives to support this Peacemakers Quilts project!
How To Help
Browse the lovely quilt tops shown below. Find one or more that you especially enjoy and note each Quilt #.
Send your donation of $108 per quilt to BLMZC. Be sure to tell us the Quilt # for each quilt that you would like to adopt. If you do not include a Quilt #, we will pick one for you! And if someone else selects your choice first, we will select an alternative. Also, we’ll add your name to the quilt photo unless you let us know that you prefer “Anonymous” to appear instead.
Please use the Donate button below to make your gift via credit card or PayPal. Or, mail your check made out to: Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community.
